NTBackup "No entries found"
My scheduled backup works fine, no errors log, but during restoring nothing appears at left control panel, just shows "no entries found". My report is:Backup Type: NormalBackup started on 16/4/2008 at 09:38.Backup completed on 16/4/2008 at 09:49.Directories: 1Files: 2Bytes: 3.940.431.698Time: 10 minutes and 39 secondsBackup (via shadow copy) of "W: Virtual-Backup"Backup set #8 on media #1Backup description: "Diario"Media name: "Media created 15/4/2008 at 22:40"Backup Type: NormalBackup started on 16/4/2008 at 09:49.Backup completed on 16/4/2008 at 09:49.Directories: 0Files: 0Bytes: 0Time: 13 secondsWhat's going on? I don't know how to solve this problem. Thanks,

Hi Densie, I would like to confirm some information with you first. Did you perform the backup on Windows Server 2003 or Window Server 2008 platform? Did you encounter the issue when you try restoring the backup with NTbackup utility? Did you rename the backup file before you restore it? Could you verify that the backup media still exist and the restore path is correct when you perform restoring? Did you backup to tape or disk? If possible, please backup some files to disk manually and then test whether it can be restored properly. Thanks.

Hi David, My OS is Windows 2003 Server. The ntbackup has done backup of othersfiles of C: D:E: etc using scheduled task.Theproblem iswhen I'm trying to restorethe files of letterW:(it shows me only the letter of the driver, no files). Yes, I can restore others files of the tape and the hard tape is a new one. I've done a manually backup test and it's worked perfectly! Take a look at my schedule task property tha run is: C:\WINNT\system32\ntbackup.exe backup "@C:\rotinas\backupScript\backup.bks" /d "Diario" /v:no /r:no /SNAPn /rs:no /hcn /m normal /j "BackupDiario" /l /p "LTO Ultrium" /um Thanks,

Hi, 1. The issue seemed to happen when there are no entries in the backup. To narrow down the root cause, please create a new schedule task and backup a test files to a disk folder to check whether it works. 2. The issue may be caused by the registry setting on the Windows Server 2003 box. Please found that the value "Catalog Database" under HKEY_Local_Machine\CurrentControlSet\Control\BackupRestore\FilesNotToBackUp to "Catalog Database1", press ok and then rename it back to "Catalog Database". Then test if the backup and restore works normally. Please note: we may backup the registry settings before we change it. Hope it helps.

Hi Denise, To narrow down the cause of the issue , please initial a new scheduled task to backup and restore from disk instead of tape to see whether it works. Steps to create the scheduled backup job 1. Run ntbackup.exe and select Advanced mode. 2. On the Backup tab, select the data that you want to backup. Select Backup Destination. Select the Backup media as New Media. 3. Click Start Backup and then you will see Backup Job Information dialog. 4. On the Backup Job Information dialog, select Replace the data on the media with this backup. 5. Click Schedule and save the backup job to a folder, c:\backupjob, for example. 6. Input the password for the account that will run this backup. Then you will see Scheduled Job Options dialog. 7. On the Scheduled Job Options dialog, input Job name and then click OK, it will prompts to set a later start time of the scheduled job. Please click Yes to set it. 8. Please give it correct schedule information, such as run every day or every week. 9. Click OK and the Scheduled Job Options dialog will disappear. Now the job is scheduled and you can open it from the Control Panel. 10. Open Scheduled Tasks in the Control Panel. 11. Right click on the job that you have created in step 1-10 and select Properties. 12. Edit the command string in Run and add " /um" (without quotation marks) at the end of the string. 13. You can also change the schedule time on Schedule tab. 14. Click OK to save it.
